That Evening Long Ago

As the sun began to set
on that evening long ago,
it shined in a reddish-orange sky,
I did not know how special was that day.

My friends silently left.
My peace of mind was seldom found
for at the time I felt so lonely.

As I watched the next sunrise,
the night was but a blur.
Perhaps I had a choice once,
but now I must go on.
The elements of my former life
attest that change is due again.
